Eggen guides Ada-Borup through first half woes

Ada-Borup’s Heidi Eggen led all scorers while guiding her team to a 58-28 win over Lake Park-Audubon Thursday at the Raiders’ brand new school and gymnasium in Lake Park.

Eggen scored all but 10 of Ada-Borup’s points in the first half, as she amassed 13 points in the first (17 total). Her fearless drives through Lake Park-Audubon’s defense and pull up jumpers was the only way the Cougars could score, as every other shot failed to pass through the hoop.

“We were off sync from the start on offense, but Heidi kept things going and stepped her game up,” Ada-Borup assistant coach Chris Kujava said. “Her aggressiveness in attacking led to free throws and she finished nearly every time.”

The Raiders defense completely shutdown Ada-Borup’s top scorer in Megan Kolness, as she failed to score in the first half. Lake Park-Audubon had a defender become Kolness’ dog for the game, as she was never left alone, that is until the second half, where Kolness broke free and managed to collect 13 points.

The second half not only looked much better Kolness, but for the Cougars as a whole, as Ada-Borup (12-1) forced Lake Park-Audubon (8-7) to commit 20 turnovers, many of which led to Ada-Borup transitioning up the floor for easy scores to cause a 10-0 run that in turn lengthened the lead to 20 points, 40-20.

The win keeps Ada-Borup at the top spot in its half of section 6A basketball and it remains undefeated in section play with 7 wins, but it plays Parkers Prairie Saturday, and the Cougars need a much better performance from every player if it hopes to have a chance against the undefeated (15-0) Panthers.

“Every girl needs to come to play Saturday,” Kujava said. “Not just one girl, not just two. But everybody.”
